REGISTRATION UNIT OF THE NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL OF NIGERIA


Introduction

The Registration Unit of the Council is charged with the responsibility of entering into the registers, names of qualified General Nurses, Midwives and seventeen (17) Post Basic Nursing Programmes. The Unit also handles the registration of Foreign Trained Nurses who have met the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s requirements for registration.

The Unit also processes and dispatches notifications of registration to schools/individuals, maintains current volumes of registers for the various categories of Nurses and also keeps statistical records of those registered. The Unit presently maintains nineteen registers for the under listed categories of nurses.

Basic Registration

Basic Registration is concerned with the registration of Nurses/Midwives who have completed their General Nursing or Basic Midwifery Education and were successful in the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Final Professional Qualifying Examination and Foreign Trained Nurses who have met the Councils requirement for registration.

Procedure for Basic Registration.

  1. Application forms for registration are forwarded to the Nursing Training Institutions with the result file (release of result for the Council’s Final Qualifying Examination for General Nurses and Basic Midwives).
  2. Application forms are to be completed by the applicant providing all the required details (information MUST be consistent with that provided at the time of indexing).
  3. Please note that change of name for females is ONLY allowed for marital reasons (surname only). The Council does not allow change of name for males.
  4. Completed application forms are to be signed and stamped by the Head of Department/Coordinator/Principal of the training Institution.
  5. Six (6) recent, clear identical coloured passport photographs, full face on white background, no eye glasses.
  6. Pay a non – refundable application/registration fee of N42, 967.00 into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria through REMITA in any bank.
  7. Penalty for late registration is payable 90 days after the release of result.
        - N77, 500.00 - Per school
        - N16, 250.00 - Per individual
  8. All fees are payable into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s account through Remita (the Registration Unit of the Council does NOT accept cash payment from individuals/schools).
  9. Head of Department/Coordinator/Principal should forward the application pack with the duplicate teller and computer printout as proof of payment with a covering letter containing the list of applicants addressed to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
  10. Designated staff should be authorized with a letter addressed to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria duely signed and stamped by the Head of Department/Coordinator/Principal.

Post Basic Registration

Qualified applicants who have completed their Basic Nursing/Midwifery training and have successfully gone through an approved Post Basic Nursing specialty.

Procedure for Post Basic registration

The applicant submits a completed application form with the following documents:

  1. Letter of identification from the school of training addressed to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
  2. Original copy of the certificate/statement of result for sighting.
  3. Photocopy of the certificate of recent qualification(s).
  4. Photocopy of certificate of previous qualification(s)/registration with the Council.
  5. Current licence.
  6. Original transcripts for Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and MSc in Nursing Education are needed for those with Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc).
  7. Post Basic application packs are addressed and forwarded to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria by the school with the duplicate teller and computer printout as proof of payment and must be accompanied by a covering letter containing the list of applicants.
  8. Pay a non – refundable application/registration fee of N61, 092.00 for Midwives/ Psychiatric Nurses and N44, 500 for other Post Basic Nurses into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria through REMITA in any bank.
  9. Penalty for late registration is payable after 90 days of the release of result:
        - N77, 500.00 - Per school
        - N16, 0250.00 - Per individual
  10. The Council does NOT accept cash payment from individuals/schools.
  11. Applicant is required to collect a notification of registration at the completion of the registration process (individual application).
  12. Designated staff should be authorized with a letter addressed to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria signed and stamped by the Head of Department/Coordinator/Principal.

Important Information

  1. All correspondence to the Registration Unit should be addressed and forwarded to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria signed by Head of Department/Coordinator/Principal.
  2. Application forms from schools (application pack) should be completed by the individual applicant, duely signed and stamped by Head of Department/Coordinator/Principal.
  3. Change of name is ONLY allowed for females on marital reasons (surname only).
  4. All information provided on the application form for registration must be consistent with that provided at the time of indexing.
  5. All Nurses applying after five (5) years of obtaining qualification must undergo a minimum of four (4) weeks refresher course in an accredited Institution and present the original certificate to the Council for registration.
